Manchester United failed to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League as defending champions Bayern Munich rallied to record a dominant win, while in Spain Atletico Madrid upset favourites Barcelona 1-0 to join Bayern in Friday’s last four draw.
David Moyes’s side had held Bayern to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in the first leg and they stunned the hosts when Patrice Evra rifled in.
But Mario Mandzukic nodded in a swift equaliser before Thomas Muller’s scuffed finish put Bayern ahead.
Arjen Robben then wrapped up the 4-2 aggregate win with a fine solo goal.
And in the second quarter-final tie of the night, Atletico Madrid knocked Barcelona out of the Champions League after Koke struck early in the second leg at the Vicente Calderon.
The midfielder’s close-range shot gave the La Liga leaders a 2-1 aggregate win following last week’s draw, reports the BBC.
The home side struck the woodwork three times in the opening 20 minutes.
Gabi wasted a fine chance to seal the tie for Atletico after the break, while Neymar went close with a diving header for Barcelona.
