Worried by the spate of child sexual abuse in the country, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Oyo State chapter is set to partner the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in the state to end the ugly trend.
The state coordinator of the commission, Mrs Oyindamola Bambgose made the disclosure on Tuesday, during her advocacy visit to the Oyo State office of NOA.
Noting the high rate of sexual violence in Oyo State, Bamgbose disclosed that the commission had begun sensitizing the public and they were in the process of talking to the radio stations to offer the commission the opportunity to share information about their activities and how to orientate people about sexual violence generally.
“We are in talk with the local NGOs around to see how we can get started. You know generally, it is very difficult to get statistics of sexually abused children generally, but since we came, we don’t have any data to back up what we have said, but people we have engaged with all the stakeholders we have met, it has been the same conversation. There is a high rise of sexual violence in Oyo State.
“We have started the fight again child sexual abuse first by sensitizing the public. We are in the process of talking to the radio stations to offer us the opportunity to share information about our works and orientate people about sexual violence generally. We are in talk with the local NGOs around to see how we can get started.”
While responding, the state Director of NOA, Mrs Dolapo Dosumu, hinted that the agency was willing to collaborate with the commission with the aim of curbing human right violation especially as regard violation of women.
“We have been having series of cases like that like and I think with their process now those found to be core people in this act would have themselves to blame.
“And also we are willing to take them along as we take this drive of campaign against human, especially female violation. We now have men abusing under age and all sort of kidnappings, abuse of women and the rest like that so we are going to have a very very good collaboration with them and with this synergy Oyo State would be better for it,” Dosumu assured.
