Cholera Hits Kogi Community, Kills Four Persons

At least four persons have been confirmed dead following the outbreak of cholera that hit a small community in Kogi State.

Our correspondent gathered that the cholera outbreak occurred in Daba, an agrarian community in Kupa South of Lokoja Local Government in the past few days.

It was learnt that some persons in the community are currently infected with the  disease.

An indigene of the community, Abubakar Suleiman told newsmen on Thursday that the community which has about 200 population don’t have access to good portable water.

“As at Wednesday, four persons have been confirmed dead in my community due to cholera outbreak. This happened because my community could not access good portable water.

“We are using this medium to call on the government to do something before more lives will be lost,” he said.

Suleiman explained that a similar outbreak had occurred in Tsanawa community about a month ago killing three people.

He, however, noted that the environmental health officer of the Daba community Mr Mohammed Bochi has been informed of the recent outbreak.

When contacted, Mr. Bochi said he is not in a position to talk about the outbreak referring journalists to contact the management of Lokoja Local Government Area.
