The Kogi State Government has confirmed that at least three persons have lost their lives in Kabawa Community in Lokoja Local Government following out break of Cholera.
The Permanent Secretary Kogi State Ministry of Health, Dr Kolawole Johnson disclosed this during a press conference held in Lokoja.
The ministry noted that out of seventeen (17) number of suspected cases, nine (9) were male, eight (8) were female and mostly adult.
Dr Johnson stated that six persons are currently on admission, three in Kogi State Specialist Hospital and three persons are in Ali Omeiza Hospital.
Dr Johnson noted that the commissioner for health, Dr. Saka Audu Haruna had earlier directed the Rapid Surveillance and Response Team of the State Ministry of Health to investigate and respond appropriately.
He advised the general public to take primitive measures on personal and environmental hygiene by properly washing their hands and adequate water treatment before drinking.
He frowned at people drinking water directly from the well just as he urged them to drink water from the public water supplied by the government which has been adequately treated.
The Permanent Secretary added that; the public should report any suspected cases of diarrhea and vomiting to the nearest hospital for proper diagnosis and response.
He however thanked the State Ministry of Health and the Rapid Surveillance Response Team for responding quickly and the State Government for providing the needed logistics to the State Ministry of Health.
