Church Must Not Pay Taxes to Govt – Nicholas Okoh

The primate of Anglican Church of Nigeria has advised churches not to be paying tax to government.

Most Rev Nicholas D Okoh gave the advised while fielding questions from the journalist during the 7th convocation and graduation ceremony of Crowther Graduate Theological Seminary, Abeokuta in Affiliation with Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo.

Rev Okoh explained that its even illegal for for church of God to be paying tax to the government when they are not doing any business than worshiping the almighty God.

He said the church has given so much to the government but government give nothing to the church.

Every months and years they gathered at Abuja sharing money and dollars. Recently the Paris fund they they did not remember any religions.

“Have you ever heard anywhere they share 15 million naira to the churches in Nigeria, they have never done so.

“Okoh said the church has contribute a lots towards the nation development, the school we are running, education of this country came from church, the civil servant, judiciary and all the man power of this country started from the church,” He added.

According to Rt Rev. Prof  Andrew Olu Igenozo Bisbop and Rector of the Crowther Graduate Theological Seminary, Abeokuta he welcome everybody to the seventh convocation for the award of Degrees and Post Graduate Diploma of this great seminary.

The Rector said the seminary has produced196 grandaunts from their respective department include, Bachelor of Theology PGD.TH  47, Postgraduate Diploma in Theology PGD.TH (Ordination) 10, Postgraduate Diploma in Theology PGD. (Academic) 2, Postgraduate Diploma in Religious Studies PGD.RS 6, Master of Missions (M. Missions) Degree 6, Master of Divinity Degree (M. Div) 36.

Also Master of Theology Degree (M.Th) 59, Master of Arts Degree (M.A) 27, Doctor of Ministry Degree (D. Min) 6, Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D) 13 making 196.

The seminary had work hard to earn their degrees, compares with the the 139 candidates of last year. We think its fairly obvious that the students population is on the increase.

Also a valendatory speech was delevered by Rev Emeka J Onwuakpa onbehalf of the graduating students, appreciate one who has influunced their convocation.

Rev Onwuakpa promised the diocese that they we discharge their duties in accordance to the Anglican rules and regulations.

He said, a lot of people have passed through this institution in the past eight years ago. There is need to galvanized them i to an Aljmni Fellowship, so that we can tap into their position a d resources for the development of this seminary. The time has come , when we ought to take up a projects and developed.

While called on past and present graduates  of crowther graduate theological seminary to utilize the journal for sound intellectual theological expressions and give it all the needed support, academically and financially.
