CITY GISTS: Obesere Gives 5 Star Performance in New Yoruba Film Oyeku Meji

Popular Fuji artiste Alhaji Abbas Akande aka Obesere is gradually becoming a movie star with the excellent way he interprets his role in Yoruba films. Obesere has acted in a couple of Yoruba films, but his performance in the new Yoruba film Oyeku Meji takes the cake. He was simply in his best elements. The movie was released last Tuesday April 17.  Oyeku Meji showcases some of the popular tales in Yorubaland. In the film, masquerades and traditional worshippers called Babalawo in Yoruba engaged themselves in a war of attrition, leading to a thriller of a film. Popular writer Abiodun Adekanbi wrote the film and it’s already in VCD. Also starring in the film are big time Yoruba actor Lere Paimo aka Eda Onileola and Lalude, among others.
Who Says Bode George’s Power and Influence Has Gone Down?
Those who think the power and influence of former Chairman of Nigeria Ports Authority and ex-Deputy National Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George have gone down at Aso Rock Presidential Villa should read this.  When Bode George was Deputy National Chairman of PDP, he cut a larger-than-life image within the ruling party and particularly in the South-west. He was the indisputable PDP leader in the South-west. At the time he was also Chairman of Ports Authority. But he ran into trouble waters and was convicted for contract splitting while in office as NPA boss for which he spent two years in jail. The Supreme Court has, however, discharged and acquitted him of the case. But while all that happened, his influence was believed to have gone down. This was also not helped by the wrangling within Lagos State PDP, which pitted him against former Works Minister Adeseye Ogunlewe. But all that is history. If in doubt about George’s strong links at the Presidential Villa, then recall that only on Thursday the Presidency announced his young wife Roli as the new Director-General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Recall that Roli was holding a federal board appointment until the present appointment. Roli takes over from Mr. Olufemi Ajayi who is now the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).
