The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has been urged to spread the Continuous Voters Registration exercise to the grass roots and ward level so as not to prevent many from participating in the exercise.
The Team Leader of the Coalition of INEC accredited observer groups, Mr. Ramonus Azubuke who disclose this while speaking at press conference in Lokoja, stated that many are eager to register during the exercise.
The Coalition also recommended that the INEC should engage committed civil society groups, political parties and other stakeholders on sensitization and mobilization of legible persons for the exercise.
It also urged the INEC to collaborate with various security agencies to ensure the safety of material and personnel and to guard against the exercise being hijacked by politicians as already speculated.
“We equally recommend that the Independent National Electoral Commission should reconsider its stands on non ad hoc staff as it is becoming evident using permanent staff alone slow down the pace of work, the number of registration of machines should be increased to about or more”.
The Coalition added that the generating set should be effect and well repaired to avoid break down as was the case in Ankpa, Dawkins, Kogi East etc. LGAs leading to suspension of the exercise for some days for some days.
“The Computer set should be well serviced and ICT staff readily made available for rapid response in event of break down in any centre which has remained a general problem unsolved.”
