Starting from Friday the 17th of July 2020, sweepers with the Lagos State Waste Management Agency, LAWMA, for the first time will be able to go the hospital and get treated for free, families affected will now receive payment for ‘death in service’ and also sweepers will now get ‘Permanent disability’ insurance cover, as the agency will be kicking into motion its Insurance Policy under the LAWMA CEO Programme Insured.
This scheme is a part of an ongoing relentless effort of the management of LAWMA led by the Acting Managing Director, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, towards ensuring that they achieve a zero tolerance for the health and wellbeing of the sweepers.
According to LAWMA, following the sweepers audit exercise, one of the very important takeaways of the exercise is the realization of the need for them to take very seriously the welfare and wellbeing of our sweepers. And there is no better way than to ensure every sweeper is covered and looked out for.
Shortly after the assumption of office as MD, Odumboni had said he is very particular about the welfare of all LAWMA workers and as such will see to it that the yearning of the workers especially those on field will be looked into and attended to.
With this insurance policy, there is no doubt that LAWMA is headed in the right direction.
