The Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, has confirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo will be running for election come 2019.
Shittu said this in an interview with State House correspondents shortly after a meeting he had with Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Shittu revealed that a Chairman for the campaign team that will lead the Buhari/Osinbajo ticket for 2019 to be called ‘Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo dynamic support group’ had been appointed.
He also revealed that the South-west zonal office of the campaign organization will be commissioned on 20th of January, saying those of them who are the President’s ardent supporters would prevail on him to seek re-election so that Nigeria can continue to enjoy stability and progress.
A report in THISDAY newspaper on Wednesday had indicated that President Buhari has re-appointed Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi as the Director-General of his campaign for re-election, suggesting again that Buhari’s second term plan is a foregone conclusion.
“It goes without saying. I mean if you have a child who goes to primary school and he does well; he proceeds to secondary school and he does well, and you keep asking if he will be going to university,” Shittu had said.
“By the grace of God, we his (Buhari’s) ardent supporters who appreciate his worth on behalf of millions of Nigerians would urge him to re-contest.”
“I know he has not made up his mind but I can say that some of us can assist him in making up his mind so that nigeria can continue to enjoy stability and progress in our land.”
“I informed Mr. President that I have appointed a National Chairman of the board of trustees of Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo dynamic support group and on the 20th of this month we are commissioning the South-west zonal office of the campaign organization of Buhari/Osinbajo.”
