Mr. Jimi Agbaje, the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party in the gubernatorial election concluded last Saturday in Lagos State, called his victorious challenger, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, to concede the election without recourse to members of his inner circle, WESTERN POST has learnt. Mr. Agbaje, it was learnt, placed the historic call at about 5:30 pm on Sunday night after results from all the 20 local government areas in the state had been collated.
“He saw the results and reached for his phone without any of us knowing who he wanted to call,” a very close Agbaje source revealed.
Agbaje’s early concession shocked some of the party leaders who said they felt slighted that their candidate could make such a decision without consulting them first, especially when there’s an unresolved issue with the result from Ibeju-Lekki where over 10,000 voters were said to have been accredited without card reading machines.
“He said he’ll do the concession after everything has been cleared,” according to another source. The source said the issue would be resolved when the party meets next week to chart a new course for its future.
