At least three person have been confirmed dead and many people injured after the activities of pipeline vandals led to a massive explosion at Igando area of Lagos state.
The explosion which reportedly happened at about 7am on Thursday behind Diamond Estate, Igando Road, was as a result of pipeline vandal attempting in break in and steal petroleum products.
According to Westernpost correspondent who was on ground witnessing the rescue operation of people who were affected, properties worth millions of naira including many lives were lost to the fire incident.
Residents say immediately the fire began, a call was put through to the Lagos state fire service but responded an hour and half later due to the lack of water in their facility.
On arrival, the team from the Lagos state fire service and other agencies tried a last minute effort to safeguard what was left of the raging fire.
Our correspondent also reports that one of the vandals was later caught by the residents why attempting to make an escape.
