The question that has propped up in some quarters after the sudden redeployment of controversial cop Joseph Mbu from Abuja to Lagos to take charge of Zone 2 Command is -why now? Is there any sinister motive in this redeployment on the eve of the 2015 election. The Presidential election is less than three weeks away. Though the redeployment affects altogether 28 other senior police officers including Mbu, it is that of Mbu that has elicited questions. And the reason should be obvious: its about the way and manner Mbu discharged himself as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State. Mbu carried on in that state in a gestapo manner. Where his loyalty was during his watch in the state was never hidden. He carried on in a manner that suggested he had sworn to defend First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan and her interests as opposed to the state and its people. Each time Mrs. Jonathan was in town, CP Mbu was at her beck and call, cap in hand, doing her bidding, thus making the state ungovernable for Governor Rotimi Amaechi. Mbu’s conduct was so bad and irritating that he had to be redeployed to Lagos ignominously. That was under former IGP Abubakar. Now there is a new Joseph in town that cares no hoot. He is IGP Suleiman Abba. Abba has redeployed Mbu to take charge of Zone 2 which comprises Lagos and Ogun states in the South-west that is critical in the coming elections. Mbu is taking over from Umaru Manko, a former Lagos State CP who has been moved to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos. What is the real motive behind this posting? Big question! Any answer?
