As part of activities marking the 40th founders day ceremony the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro (FPI),  Ogun, has said that over 4, 000 students will be graduating at its 19th convocation ceremony on Wednesday.

The  Rector of the Institution, Dr. Olusegun Aluko disclosed this during a press conference in commemoration of the institution’s 40th anniversary and 19th convocation ceremony, held at the school premises in Ilaro.

Olanrewaju explained that 40 of the students would be graduating with distinctions, saying that it cut across both Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND).

The rector added that the school had started moves at ensuring that its products become entrepreneurs after leaving school, saying that the era of waiting for white-collar job was over.

He added that the school was aware of the challenges of unemployment in the country,  saying that it was making efforts to ensure that its students performed effectively when they get to labour market.

He noted that the polytechnic remains one of the institutions that was fully prepared to change the narrative of the country.

The rector explained that the polytechnic had not been lagging behind in its primary mandate which was research and development.

“Through the Manufacturers  Association of Nigeria (MAN),  we recently exhibited some of the equipment that we invented. We have supplied many companies some of our equipment and some other companies are still ordering for them.

“We are also working to make sure that we impact our environment,   that is why we have created an agricultural village and we are trying to see how we can add value to our agricultural sector.

“We are the only polytechnic in Nigeria to offer courses in Cement technology. We have collaboration with Dangote Cement Company.

“The company has approved equipment worth N220million  for the department of Cement technology, so we are waiting for the equipment,” he said.

He added that there would be conferment of Fellowship Awards on  Alaafin of Oyo,  Oba Lamidi Adeyemi,  Paramount Ruler of Yewa Land, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle and a  renowned Dentist, S. A. J  Ibikunle.

He, however, explained that poor supply of public electricity had been a major challenge being confronted on campus, especially during an examination.

The rector appealed to the Federal government to assist the institution in the provision of stable electricity, saying it would assist in boosting the performance of the undergraduates.
