An initial one million face masks are to be produced within one week by the Oyo state government for residents for use in Public places.
This is part of State government measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the state
The state governor, who doubles as chairman, Oyo state covid-19 tasks force said the task force reached the decision to implement the use of face masks in public in view of the dangers the people might be exposed to in contracting the virus in public places.
Governor Makinde said plans had been concluded to engage the services of one hundred tailors who will be trained on the exact specification adding that such tailor can then engage other tailors in order to meet up with the time frame.
He stated that in addition to the one hundred bed infectious disease center at Olodo which is ready to receive cases of coronavirus, the state government has upgraded the maternal and child health center at the Ladoke Akintola teaching hospital, Ogbomosho into an isolation center and that a section of the general hospital, Igboora is being evaluated for same purpose
The governor, had earlier hinted that four new cases was recorded in the last 48hrs stating that the aspiration of the state government to embark on mass testing of the people is to see the pattern of the disease in our environment and to have appropriate measures designed to deal with the situation
On food security, he said farmers in the state will be enlightened on how to stay safe during the farming season adding that his administration is collaborating the international institute of tropical agriculture (IITA) and the institute of agricultural research and training ( IAR&t) to get seedlings for farmers
He commended health workers in the state assuring that the state government will continue to make their welfare a priority and ensure they are adequately protected as they carry out their duties.
