Residents of Olojabala community, Osunjela in Atakumosa West Local Government Area of Osun State, have cried out over alleged continuous arrest of inhabitants of the community by the police for allegedly defrauding the leader of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye.
The video tape of 2minutes 54 seconds of the legislator had gone viral on social media where the legislator was caught naked in the bush while allegedly trying to bath with blood.
The community alleged that since then, the police had been harassing landlords arresting residents indiscrimately.
Speaking with news men at the weekend, landlords in Olojabala community, narrated that a man called Evangelist Adewoyin who was a motorcyclist saw the car of Hon Owoeye while returning home after 12.00am on July 7, 2018, and he alerted the community, suspecting the legislator to be one of those that have been stealing cable wires in the community.
According to the community, “We lock the car and we were tracing the owner. We saw him coming naked with a telephone torch. We challenged him and he told us that they came to our community to consult Ifa oracle. We saw blood and a bowl in his car. We asked him where he saw the blood and he said it was the blood of cow.
“It was about 1.00am on that day. We were beating him before he told us that he is a member of the state Assembly. He called one of the land owners whose name is Mufutau. It was Mufutau that begged us to release him and we allowed him to go. He promised to contribute N500,000 to our electricity project that we are undertaking in our community.
Then, the lawmaker broke the glass of his car and took his clothes.
“We went to inform the monarch in Osunjela and we gave him the video clip upon demand. It was about two weeks that another Honourable member called Festus Komolafe popularly known as BFK came and gave us N10,000. One of the community leader also brought N100,000 for our electricity project. We kept the money in the community bank account.
“We have left everything for the monarch until one day when the police came to arrest one man that we call Sango. We went to the Police headquarters to know why he was arrested and they detained our Chairman, Niyi Oyebamiji, Kehinde Awodunmola and Ismail Azeez. They asked us to produce the money given to us and we withdrew the N110,000 given to us from the community account and gave the police.
“We later learnt that some people have been using the video clip to collect money from him. We didn’t know anything about it. They have been arresting people in our community and remanding them in prison. We can not sleep in our house. Police should find those that collected money from him.”
It would be recalled that eight people have been remanded in prison and still facing seven count charges bordering on conspiracy, kidnapping, unlawful possession of fire arms, among others.
Those on the charge sheet obtained by our correspondent are: “Kazeem Agbabiaka, Femi Oyebode, AbdurRasheed Ojonla, Babatunde Oluajo, Adebiyi Oseni, Oyebamiji Oyeniyi, Ismaila Azeez and Awodunmola Kehinde.”
The charge sheet against the accused persons reads in part: “That you, and others now at large, between the month of April and July 2018, at Oluajo Area, Osogbo, while armed with dangerous weapons like guns, UTC Axe and cutlasses, did rob one Timothy Owoeye of the sum of N38million and thereby committed an offence.”
They were also alleged to have conspired to commit felony to wit kidnapping Owoeye. They have been remanded in prison while they are being tried at the Magistrate Court, Osogbo.
The landlords in the community called on the police to stop clamp down on their members and do a thorough investigation to unravel those that collected money from the legislator.
