Couple Suspected To Have Died Of Poison Buried In Osun

A couple suspected to have died of poison in Ilesa, Osun State were on Thursday buried at their residence at Ireti Ayo, Imose area of the town.

Families and sympathisers wailed uncontrollably when the bodies were committed to mother earth.

The late couple, Pastor Eso Michael (55) and Deaconess Eso Oluwafisayo Deborah (50) were last Friday found dead in their apartment while circumstances surrounding their deaths raised suspiscion in the community.

It was gathered that the late couple’s maid, simply identified as Lara, an Igede girl who was said to have been living with them for years was alleged to have poisoned the deceased.

It was also suspected that the couple may have died as a result of inhaling power generating set fume.

But a source close to the family of the deceased debunked the claims that they were either poisoned by the maid or died of generator emission.

He said the children of the deceased wouldn’t have believed that the maid could poison their parents because she has been with them and “she is even very young to commit such an atrocity at the age of under 10”.

However, the family was not in any doubt that the deceased were poisoned but could not ascertain who perpetrated the act.

The Osun Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Yemisi Opalola said that the children of the deceased insisted that they bury their parents, a decision which discontinued further investigation of the matter.

“The children of the deceased said they wanted to bury their parents. They said they didn’t want any autopsy to be conducted. So we cannot continue investigation to ascertain the cause of their death,” Opalola explained.

She added that the poiice wished to unravel the cause of the death of the couple.

Meanwhile, the maid of the couple who was the prime suspect has been arrested and is helping in the investigation.

However, the police said one of the children of the deceased has collected injunction from the court stopping the investigation process.
