An Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Ile- Ife on Thursday, sentenced an 18-year-old, Olaiya Peter, to three-hour community service for contempt of court.

Peter who was charged on a one-count charge of contempt of court pleaded guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 8, 2022 at the Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi further informed the court that the accused did absent himself from court as an act of disrespect, despite standing trial in charge No. MIF/254C/2021 having known same to be an offence.

The prosecutor said the offence committed contravened section 133 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

Delivering his judgment, Magistrate A.A. Ayeni sentenced Peter to three-hour community service.

Ayeni ruled that the community service would be done at the court premises and supervised by the officers of the correctional service centre.
