Covid-19: Crime Rate Heightens in Ibadan Metropolis as Partial Lockdown Continues

Worried by the rising wave of crime within Ibadan metropolis,  Chairmen of Ibadan Northeast Local Government, Hon.Ibrahim Akintayo and his Ibadan East LCDA counterpart, Hon. Abiodun Babalola have summoned a security meeting to urgently tackle  the ugly trend

The meeting, which comprises representatives of the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps( NSCDC), vigilante groups, Odua People’s Congress, (OPC)  among others is aimed at fashioning out modalities to nip the ugly trend in the bud

Residents of some parts of the city have witnessed series of attacks by hoodlums and armed robbers who dispossessed victims of their cash and other valuables  as a result of the partial lockdown in the state due to the coronavirus scourge rampaging the country and most parts of the world

Hon. Babalola who spoke with newsmen said: “The local governments called the meeting to how we can arrest the situation

“We are going to double our relationship with the security agencies and collaborate  with other stakeholders such as the  community development councils (CDC) and CDI, religious leaders as well as other stakeholders and the reports we have today will give us a direction to move.”

Hon. Babalola while assuring that more funding would be injected to ensure efficiency of security operations called for calm among residents as arrangements are in top gear to arrest the situation.

Also speaking, Chairman, Ibadan Northeast, Hon. Akintayo assured the people that everything humanly possible would be done within the confines of the law to protect the lives and property of the people.

“I want to assure you that we are doing everything possible within the confines of the law to make sure our people are at peace at night,” he said
