The Caretaker Chairman, Ibadan North East Local Government area of Oyo State, Honourable Ibrahim Akintayo has said that awareness and sensitisation programme organised for people of his council on the Coronavirus pandemic will help observe safety measures against the dreaded disease.
Hon. Akintayo in a chat with newsmen in Ibadan on Friday said the step became necessary to help the people with tips that will help them observe safety measures against the COVID-19.
According to him, he is the first Caretaker Chairman to embark on the measure to address the people on the development, adding that the sensitisation programme was based on the information he has so far received from the international countries on the pandemic.
He said the sensitisation programme was taking to market centres, security agencies and it yielded a positive result.
“Basically I used the occasion to treat two issues, the COVID-19 and Lassa Fever and it yielded positive result because, after the programme, I can tell you that seven out of 10 of our market are now very clean.
“As I speak, we have worked all over our council area with the aid of Okada riders and dispatch riders and there was no confirmed case of the virus in my local government.”
While appealing to the people of the state to cooperate with the government on safety measures and the stay at home order, Hon Akintayo urged them to avoid anything that could bring them in contact with the killer virus.
He also made it clear that the state government has provided isolation center in Olodo area in Ibadan.
