The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended and appreciated the Federal Government on mechanisms put in place so far to curtail the coronavirus pandemic.
The National Public Relations Officer of the association, Mr. Azeez Adeyemi, gave the commendation during a press conference in Abeokuta on Monday.
Adeyemi stated that FG’s pronouncement on Churches, Mosques and other public places to avoid the spread of the virus was commendable.
He noted that the student’s body was aware of the crucial roles of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the collaborating efforts of Health practitioners and other civil societies.
He called on NCDC to be more proactive in attending to cases of COVID-19, saying that the pandemic disease should be addressed aggressively.
The NANS spokesman explained that the students were in full support of the closure of all FG owned institutions from Federal Colleges of Education to Universities.
He urged Nigerian students to abide by the guidelines released by the FG in curbing and mitigating the effect of the deadly virus.
He said that the association demanded accountability in any counterparts funds received by the government and organizations to combat and curtail the spread of coronavirus.
“NANS stands with Nigeria government and indeed the entire world in this trying time.
“As part of efforts to curtail the virus, NANS will be embarking on aggressive sensitization exercise through the social media platforms by mobilizing Nigerian citizens to follow the directive of government and adhere to it ,” he said.
Adeyemi , however, pleaded with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and by extension to direct retailers not to take advantage of this pandemic disease to inflate prices of the commodity.
