Nigeria’s coronavirus infections surged rapidly on Thursday to 14,554 after record 681 new confirmed cases were reported in 17 states, with Lagos alone recording 345 cases, more than half of total new cases.
It was the highest number of daily cases seen so far in the entire country after 663 recorded on June 9, and in the South West city of Lagos.
In its daily update late night Thursday, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) also disclosed that five coronavirus related deaths were recorded on Thursday bringing the total number of fatalities to 387.
However, NCDC said that 4,494 cases had been discharged after they were treated and recovered leaving 9,673 as total active cases.
According to the NCDC, a total of 85,375 samples have been tested.
“On the 11th of June 2020, 681 new confirmed cases and 5 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
“No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.
“Till date, 14,554 cases have been confirmed, 4,494 cases have been discharged and 387 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory, ” NCDC tweeted.
