The Oyo State Commissioner For Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye has lauded the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde’ technical ability to manage and sustain the education sector in the COVID-19 pandemic period.
The commissioner said governor Makinde’s high commitment to the sector has continued to sustain it adding several measures were put in action manage it.
According to him, since the pandemic started, the ministry of education has introduced a number of programmes which kept students learning while at home.
He said the Ministry of Education had put up school on-air programmes through which series of lectures on different subjects are being aired on Radio and Television to keep students learning.
“Through this medium, the students have remained on the learning platform. Not only that, we also uploaded a number of educational materials on our website to make them continue learning.”
Barrister Olaleye said they went into partnership with Aitel so that students in the state can have easy access the website without paying a kobo.
“In addition, we partnered with a number of a private organisation on school on the air lecture series. Splash FM and Jagaban TV for example are running most of our programmes for primary schools.
Meanwhile, the state government has announced resumption of school in the state on June 29.
The commissioner admonished students to observe safety measures and social distancing in order to control the spread of the coronavirus.
