Covid-19: LASG Has Vaccinated 1.2million Lagosians-Sanwo-Olu


4 million to be vaccinated  before December 31st 2021

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday said 1.2 million Lagosians have been vaccinated with the first dose of either AstraZeneca or Moderna.

He also put the figure of fully vaccinated individuals at 550,000 accounting for just about four percent of the target population.

Sanwo-Olu made this known at the Lagos State Covid-19 mass vaccination campaign holding at Civic centre, Victoria Island, Eti-Osa Local Government.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said he has decided to vaccinate 30 Percent of the Lagos population within the next one year.

He said: “With support from the Federal Government, through the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency with the Executive Director standing right next to me, I am delighted to flag-off the state-wide mass campaign against the COVID-19 Virus Infection in Lagos State, today Wednesday, 27th October 2021.

“The accelerated campaign will commence today and end on Saturday, December 25th, 2021.

“Lagos State has been the epicentre of the COVID-19 virus in the country since the first case within our borders was discovered on the 27th of February 2020.

“Following this event, the state has recorded 77,695 cases which is 40% of the cases seen in the country.

“To mitigate the rate of infection and severity, Lagos State commenced the implementation of several strategies such as increasing our COVID PCR testing capacity, improving the access to medical grade oxygen, and expanding our isolation capacity.”

Sanwo-Olu also said the first phase saw the vaccination of 400,000 persons with at least the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine received from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and 250,000 persons were also fully vaccinated with the first and second dose of the vaccine.

The governor said, with the second phase of the vaccination campaign, Lagos State has successfully vaccinated 800,000 with the first dose of Moderna and 310,000 persons fully vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said his administration intends to vaccinate four million Lagosians before the end of December 2021.

He said Lagos State government will set up COVID-19 vaccination fixed posts across 205 public primary health centres, 14 secondary and tertiary hospitals, and 400 private health centres across the 57 Local Government and Local Council Development Areas.
