One year after the death of the matriarch of the Awolowo family, Chief HID Awolowo, the family has inaugurated a foundation in her name, HID Awolowo Foundation.
Late HID Awolowo
The foundation was inaugurated on Monday at the Efunyela Hall of the Ikenne country home of the Awolowos.
The chairperson of the foundation’s advisory council is Senator Daisy Danjuma, who will be supported by 16 other persons who include wives of the former governors of Ekiti and Ogun states, Erelu Bisi Fayemi and Mrs Olufunke Daniel.
The foundation, among others, seeks to impact on women qualities of leadership and doggedness, as demonstrated by the matriarch; and to advocate for the empowerment of women in all spheres of life.
The HID Awolowo Foundation may likely address issues relating to women in agriculture, advancement of the girl-child as well as other women’s involvement in developmental politics among others.
