The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has denied allegations that former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, is planning to defect to another party. He said Daniel remains the leader of the party in the state.
Chief Bayo Dayo said this during the inauguration of Ogun PDP 35-member gubernatorial campaign committee at the state secretariat in Abeokuta.
He said the former governor is determined to work with the party in the state, adding that it is a rumour that he wants to dump the party for another one.
“I spoke with him; he is still with us and 100 percent with the PDP and has also been supportive; we are together and we will remain together because he has been protecting the interest of the party,” he said.
On the defection of some members, the chairman said it was a personal decision and everybody had the right to be associated with any group, saying that the party would not stop anybody from defecting.
He appealed to aggrieved aspirants to work, cooperate and come together as one family, adding that it is only by working together and winning the election that could make them relevant.
On the issue of the deputy governorship candidate, the chairman said the issue would be resolved soon, saying the party is only trying to avoid a Muslim, Muslim ticket.
He urged members of the campaign committee to work as a team, campaign vigorously and carry along all those who lost out at the party primaries.
Mr. Yomi Majekodunmi, the Director-General of the committee, promised that the campaign would be issued base, saying the state deserves better than it is getting now.
Members of the committee include Mr. Yemi Akinwonmi, Deputy DG (East), Dr Kunle Salako, Deputy DG (West) and Mr. Segun Sowunmi, Deputy DG (Central).
