Kwara state governor, Mallam Abdulraman Abdulrazaq has been urged to run an all-inclusive government that will accommodate the interest of the deaf and other people living with disabilities in the state.
The chairman, Kwara State Association for the Deaf, Mr. Ridwan Hassan made this appeal on Monday at a press briefing heralding International week for Deaf people held at Nigerian Union of Journalists Secretariat Ilorin.
Hassan said the deaf can also work in government parastatals and agencies like other human beings.
He noted that most of them attended the same educational institutions with other members of the society and knowledgeable in various fields of endeavours with a certificate to back it up.
The Chairman explained further that there are experts like; medical Doctors, Lecturers, and Engineers among them.
He called on the state government to appoint an interpreter as a special Adviser on people living with disabilities to carry them along in the activities of the government.
He noted that most of them are being cheated when it comes to the issue of expressing themselves to defend their rights.
Hassan appealed to the state government to include the deaf and people living with disabilities in its empowerment programme.
