Two officers in the Ondo State Police Command have been suspended for their role in the brutal killing of a widow, Mrs. Ronke Adelugba, at her No 1, Akinyemi Street, off Ijoka road, Sijuwade Close, Akure, residence.
The outgoing state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Isaacs Eke, who disclosed the suspension of the officers while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Akure, identified them as Inspector Fabunmi Oladipupo and Inspector Haruna Idris, from the Ala unit of the Oda Police Divisional Police Command.
Eke said the two officers were part of the 10 policemen earlier suspected to have killed the 50 year-old widow.
The police boss, however, added that the remaining eight officers earlier indicted in the case were not directly involved and had been exonerated of the crime, stating that the command is already investigating the incident that led to the death of the old woman.
He also disclosed that the command had also sent for an autopsy report as part of the police investigative process to unravel the main cause of the death.
Eke, who has now been transferred to Abuja, assured that the case, which had already been taken up by civil society organizations, would not be thrown under the carpet not even by his successor.
In the meantime, the children of the deceased, Henry and Daniel, while speaking with WESTERN POST on Friday, said the state police command through the state Specialist Hospital, Akure is asking them to pay N42, 000 to carry out an autopsy report on their late mother.
They disclosed that the police told them that an autopsy would be carried out in order to unravel the “true cause” of how their mother’s death.
“Now, they are asking us for such a huge amount of money despite killing our mother. We can’t afford such fund,” they said.
The youngsters in an emotion-ladden voice said their mother was dehumanized, dragged by the hair, and slapped several times before she was elbowed with a gun butt intermittently in the chest.
The two young boys specifically identified Inspector Fabunmi Oladipupo as the ring leaders of the police squad that killed their mother.
