Kokodi-Agbene community of Gbaramatu in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State is warming up to occupy Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), facility in the area as the 14-day ultimatum expires today.
The Community Chairman, Sheriff Mulade, made the revelation yesterday in a chat with Vanguard.
“We are warming up to occupy Chevron over their failure to heed our demand,” Mulade said.
The oil-rich community had, two weeks ago during a peaceful protest, issued a 14-day ultimatum to Chevron, to connect electricity to the community or face the wrath of the people.
The community handed down the ultimatum to Chevron when the people comprising men, women and youths, stormed Chevron’s facility at Utunana flow station in a peaceful protest.
Mulade had, during the protest, warned that the community will occupy Chevron’s facility should it fail to heed their demands by connecting them to its Independent Power Plant.
He noted that the community which is just a stone throw to the Chevron has been in perpetual darkness for the past 19 years while the multinational company supplies steady light to other neighbouring communities.
