The Oyo State Chairman of Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Comrade Adekunle Adedeji has admonished headteachers and teachers in primary schools in the state to desist from illegal act capable of undermining the integrity of the noble profession.
Comrade Adedeji gave the admonition during a meeting with some headteachers and teachers on issues bothering on the progress of schools in the state.
According to him, teachers owe Governor Seyi Makinde loyalty and total dedication for rescuing the sector from total collapse.
He said, “I want to urge headteachers and teachers to desist from engaging in illegal activities that can undermine the integrity of the profession, as AOPSHON and the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) will not answer for anyone found guilty of any offence.”
The AOPSHON boss said it was high time teachers in the state joined hands with the present government to advance the course of education in the state.
He explained that, “We all need to support this government because you all will recall that things were not as good as this during the recent past administration, and I hope you remember the sufferings, the several screenings we did and the late payment of salaries which we experienced, so don’t allow any act of illegality to happen in this good government responding well to our needs.
“The government of Engr. Seyi Makinde has been paying our salary as at when due, and elevated school grants from N300 thousand to N500 thousand, its a miracle to us, so we need to cooperate with him to improve the standard of education in the state.”
Comrade Adedeji said teachers owe Gov. Makinde total dedication and unflinching loyalty owing to his stride in the sector since he assumed office.
He also warned them to stay away from politics that could undermine their job and the profession, just as he assured them that the government would settle all leave bonuses as soon as all lingering issues with the local government are settled.
