The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Osogbo field office has decried the frequent gas explosion in the country.
Consequent upon this, the Department will sensitise no fewer than 400 stakeholders in the oil and gas business in the state on the need to adhere strictly to safety practices in the course of operations.
DPR Operations Controller in the state, Mr. Olusegun Daboh, who disclosed this to newsmen in Osogbo on Tuesday said DPR, as a regulatory agency in the oil and gas industry, would continue to clamp down on all the illegal gas plant in the state.
Daboh said the department had concluded plans to hold its Annual General Meeting, slated for March 19, where all oil and gas marketers would be sensitised on safety practices to avoid fire outbreak.
He said more than 400 delegates from all the 16 Local Government Area of the state would be in attendance and would be sensitised on safety practices in oil and gas business
Daboh said members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, Nigeria Association of Liquefied, among others were expected at the event.
The Controllers, who gave the theme of the sensitisation meeting as ” Safety Practices in Oil and Gas Industry: Our Civic Obligations, said experts in the industry would deliver lectures to sensitise delegates.
Daboh said DPR Director, Sarki Auwalu, would also be at the meeting, while Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun would be the Special Guest of honour at the event.
