The Oyo State Government in collaboration with the state sector of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency has arrested three drug syndicates with 333 bags of cannabis sativa also known as Indian hemp.
The former Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Mr. Segun Abolarinwa, revealed this while briefing the press on the arrest of the suspects and the banned items at the NDLEA office Onireke, Ibadan
He said the three suspects were arrested at Gambari Forest Reserve in Oluyole Local Government Area of the state with Indian hemp already-packaged into several bags with various inscriptions.
Abolarinwa said 15 bags out of the seizure was canabis sativa seed worth 5148 kg while the entire seizure was valued at about 15 million Naira.
He added that about a week earlier, the state command of the drug agency had intercepted about 219 bags of India hemp weighing about 2671KG.
The three paraded suspects claimed that they were employed to harvest the cannabis at the rate of 500 Naira per bag. Their employer had since disappeared.
