But for the timely intervention of the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adebanjo alongside other security agencies in the state, the Anthony Enahoro Complex at the Ring Road would have been a theatre of war.
Deployed to help quell a major breakdown of law and order by the feuding legislators in the state house of Assembly were all DPO’s from Edo south senatorial district including the men and officers of NSCDC, DSS.
Several hours after an altercation between the parallel members, now divided into APC (15 members) and PDP (eight) lawmakers, a kind of truce was called by the CP in the hallow chambers with both parties agreeing to sheath their swords.
Side by side each member of the 24 lawmakers met inside the chambers without the mace in the company of the CP.
Some members were injured during the fracas with Majority Leader Philip Shaibu (APC, Etsako West II) and Patrick Osayimen (PDP, Oredo East) sustaining wounds as the glass door leading to the main chambers was destroyed.
Nevertheless the lawmakers’ meeting took place under the watchful eyes of Mr Adebanjo and an army of over 500 policemen and men of the civil defence corps, who condoned off all access roads leading to the assembly complex on the Ring Road in the state capital.
It was learnt that reaching a compromise was difficult as while the PDP lawmakers wanted the suspension on their members lifted, their APC counterparts insisted that their action was a valid resolution of the house which was binding.
