Collation of votes in Wednesday’s Edo governorship election was still ongoing at 12 midnight as feelers were emerging that the All Progressives Congress candidate, Godwin Obaseki, was leading in the poll.
The election was generally said to be peaceful, though voting was delayed in some areas, ending around 5 pm in some polling stations.
Accreditation and voting were simultaneous in some stations and counting began immediately.
There was also unconfirmed allegation of ballot snatching in Oredo Local Government Area of the state.
The process has now shifted to the INEC headquarters in Benin where final collation was being done.
Some party officials coming out of the coalition centre gave the impression that the APC candidate was leading all the way.
His major rival is PDP candidate Pastor Ize-Iyamu.
The election characterised by high tension was generally seen as a referendum on APC Governor Adams Oshiomhole who had been in the saddle in the state in the last eight years. .
