Edo: Only One Angel is Preferred, Says Oshiomhole as Rift with Deputy Odubu is Over

By Agene Akhere in Benin

Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has settled the rift with his deputy, Dr. Pius Odubu, which reached its height in the build-up to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in the state.

Oshiomhole had preferred head of his Economic Team, Godwin Obaseki to his deputy of eight years, Dr. Odubu, who was gunning to succeed him.

At the zenith of the fight between the two which had witnessed skirmishes on campaign trail, Oshiomhole had sacked some of Odubu’s aides in government.

But as a mark of the resolution of the crisis, Oshiomhole said all those aides would be reinstated and paid their entitlements as if they were never out of office for one day.

He said there were 12 angels in the APC governorship race and only one angel was required, but he did not state why that angel, presumably Obaseki, was the preferred choice.

The reconciliation had in attendance some APC leaders in the state and traditional rulers including community leaders from Odubu’s town.

Odubu also confirmed that the crisis was over, pledging that he would work for the success of the APC in the September 10 election in the state.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has rejected the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by the embattled senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

This means that Chief Ize Iyamu picked by the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Caretaker Committee of PDP is the official candidate of the party for the race, meaning Obaseki will slug it out with Iyamu of PDP and candidates of the other parties in the September election.
