By Agene Akhere in Benin

Edo State Government has disclosed plans to create hundreds of employment opportunities through foreign and local investors for the teeming unemployed youths across the state whose plans are being perfected to establish their businesses.

The state’s Commissioner for Foreign Investment, Mr. Denise Idahosa, made this disclosure when he feted Youths of Iguobazuwa in Ovia South West Local Government Area of the state.

He listed the sector investors to have shown interest in the scheme to include renewable energy, agriculture, pharmaceutical companies, and service industries.

Idahosa said in spite of challenges of unemployment in the country, the youths must remain focused and keep away from social vices.

While noting that the administration of Governor Adams Oshiomhole had over the years created thousands of jobs, especially for the youths, the commissioner said government alone cannot create the needed jobs.

He said it was for this reason that the government had approached these investors to come and take advantage of the window of opportunities that abound in the state.

Idahosa noted that the approach was not only to provide employments but to boost the economy of the state as well as its’ Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

According to him, “Yes, we have positive development as regards drive for foreign investors, especially in the areas of agriculture, renewable energy and pharmaceutical companies.

“We are working at getting the foreign as well as local investors to partner with the state government to boost the IGR, create employment opportunities as well as promoting our economy growth.

“We have lots of proposals that we are actually working on, and these companies will soon be coming for visibility studies and they have given us a reasonable documentation that we are confident that they are going to invest in the state.

“As regards drive for foreign investment, we plan hosting lots of seminars within and outside the country just to encourage investors to patronize the state.”

He said the government of Edo State having done the needful in the area of creating employment itself, had also striven to provide a conducive environment for investors in the state.

The commissioner stressed that it was for this reason that the government had not relented in the area of infrastructural development, especially road construction, health, water among others.

He said irrespective of their political affiliation, the youths must remain united and contribute their quota to the development of their immediate communities.
