The Economy and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Tuesday in Akure arraigned the Vice Chancellor Of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Prof. Gregory Daramola over 9 count charge ranging from misappropriation of public funds, Misuse of office, obtaining money under force pretence among others.
Daramola, who arrived at the state high court 6 at exactly 9:05 in the morning in the company of his Bursar, Mr Ayodeji Emmanuel Oresegun, who was also charged on two count charge, on Mishandling of public funds, and fixing of funds without due process.
The presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Bola Ademola, who later after listening to the prosecution counsel, who is also the lead counsel , Barr. Ben Ubi, and the Defence Counsel, Barr. Adebayo Adenipekun, pleaded the Judge to adjourn the case till 21& 22 of March , 2017, for further and proper hearing, which was granted.
Meanwhile, Daramola was granted bail along side the University Bursar, with the sum of #10 million each with two sureties each who reside within the Akure Metropolis with a landed property.
Daramola was later remanded in the state Criminal Investigation Department pending when the bail conditions will be met
While reacting to the outcome of the ruling of the judge, the University Joint Action Committee Chairman, comrade Dele Durojaye, lauded the outcome and said it is in line with the anti corruption crusade of president Mohammadu Buhari.
The Crisis rocking the University has since been ravaging for over six months between the embattled Vice Chancellor and the Non Academic staff union of the university accusing him of fraud and maladministration in conjunction with the University Bursar.
