Former Deputy Governor of Osun State and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2014 governorship election in the state, Senator Iyiola Omisore, was arrested in a gestapo style by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in his Abuja residence on Sunday.
The anti-graft body was said to have been monitoring Omisore’s movement for some time now. They swooped on the residence located in Asokoro area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) the moment the agency’s officials were sure he was home.
He was arrested for allegedly collecting N1.3 billion from the Office of the National Security Adviser for the prosecution of his election.
But he had denied neither collecting money from nor having any relationship with the NSA Office under Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).
The former deputy governor had earlier dragged the commission to court, praying the court to bar the commission from arresting him.
Omisore, who said he was yet to be invited as at last week by the EFCC, was declared wanted by the anti-graft agency over the case.
The money released by a former National Security Adviser, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki, was reportedly traced to Omisore’s account.
