The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has explained that there was a mix-up in its earlier statement and that at no time was the Director-General of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) arrested.
The commission’s Head of Publicity Wilson Uwujaren said the institution that was being referred to was Institute of Agriculture Research and Training (IART).
Uwujaren said in a mail to IITA Head of Information as follows: “Thanks for your email. As your rightly observed, the allusion to International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, IITA, in my press release of 31st October, 2014 was a mix-up which is regrettable.
“We offer our apologies to the IITA for any embarrassment that the misleading report might have caused.
“Since the discovery of the slip, we have taken steps to make amends, including reissuing the release with the correct information and sending messages across the media establishments on the Commission’s mailing list to retract the earlier report.
“I have attached the correct release to this mail.
“Once again, accept our apologies.”
