The Lagos State Police Command said it is investigating the death of eight children inside a car in the Badagry area of the state.
A statement by the Police on Sunday said the children mistakenly locked themselves in the car where they all died from possible suffocation.
“Notwithstanding, the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered a thorough and speedy investigation into the circumstances surrounding their death,” the Police statement said.
The bodies of the children have been deposited at the Badagry General Hospital for autopsy so as to determine the actual cause of death, the statement added.
It was learnt that at about 6.05pm on Saturday, 4th of December, 2021 eight kids were suffocated to death at 18 Adelayo Street, Jah Michael Bus stop, Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
Eyewitness report revealed that they locked themselves in a parked car in the compound of the above address.
Seven of the children were dead by the time the car was opened, while the 8th child, who was rushed to the hospital was pronounced death on arrival.
Officers of the Nigerian Police from Morogbo Divisional Headquarters were said to have arrived the scene and took the kids and the landlady who was attacked and beaten by the parents of the kids to the station.
Seven of the dead kids were said to be children of Niger Republic residing at Jah Michael while the 8th child is the grandchild of the landlady.
