A building under construction at Onireke, near Ibadan Polo Club on Tuesday collapsed, leaving eight casual workers at the site severely injured.
This is coming barely a month after a building collapsed at Sogoye, Idi Arere, in Ibadan with some casualties.
The wounded casual workers are already recieving treatment at the Jericho hospital Ibadan.
One of the casual workers who escaped the incident, Taofeek Iyanda while giving account of the collapse said they informed the site Engineer of signs the building was giving them but asked them to continue working.
“It didnt take long after we informed the site Engineer before the building went down, leaving eight workers seriouly wounded. Though I had little bruises in my hand, the other workers suffered various degrees of injuries.”
A passer by, Oloruntoba Sunday while speaking with newsmen on the development described the incident as terrible, adding that the collapse could be as a result of sub- Standard materials used for the building construction.
Speaking with Journalists at the site of the collapse, an expert, Architect Tunji Bolu described the development as unfortunate adding that they are still going to investigate the cause of the collapse to unraveled the mystery behind the development.
According to him, building collapse is happening all over Nigeria and it was high time professionals alone be allowed to handle building projects in order to forestall more occurrences.
“That’s why we are saying that only professionals and licensed building Engineers be allowed to handle building projects. This is rather unfortunate. Steps should be taken to stop quacks from handling building projects.
Meanwhile, the state Bureau of Physical Planning and Development Control has sealed off the site of the building to prevent workers and the contractor from carrying on the building projects.
