Two rams allegedly being reared by a manager of a filling station in Ekiti State were on Tuesday arrested and ‘detained’ for two days by policemen at the Ado-Ekiti Area Command for attacking  a 65-year-old woman, fondly  called ‘Iya Oyo’.

Iya Oyo was heading for the Union Bank at Okesa Area of the State Capital with her to make withdrawal,  when one of the rams, on sighting her had  allegedly charged at her and hit her severally on the right thigh.

The woman sustained severe fractures and was immediately rushed to Dr. Sico Trado Medical Bone Clinic, Ereguru, Ado Ekiti by Good Samaritans .

Speaking with newsmen on the incident, she Iya Oyo said she fell down and fainted  immediately only to find herself at the clinic after coming back to life.

She said: “On the fateful day, I was going to the Union Bank with my son. We were walking on the walkway and saw the rams in front of us but not knowing what was on their mind.

“But immediately they sighted us coming closer to them, one of the rams rushed towards me and hit me several times with its horns. “Immediately, I fell down. But as I was struggling to get up, the second ram joined the first to attack me, thank God that some people came to my rescue and saved me from untimely death in the hands of these “mad rams.”

It was gathered that residents of the area have been complaining about the activities of the notorious rams before the incident. Some of them said: “We have complained several times to the owner of the rams to tame the animals but to no avail.  The animals are always roaming the streets and daring people.”

The Director of the Trado-medical  Clinic, Chief Ezekiel Ogunjemilusi, said  the victim  was brought to his clinic “in a critical  stage with fracture on two sides of her right leg.”

He said the treatment would take him months to handle.

No official statement has been issued  by the Police Command over the incident, but a highly placed police officer at the Area office confirmed the attack.

He added : “Since yesterday, we have sent two of our men to go and invite the owner of the rams but he is nowhere to be found. We learnt he is the manager of a filling station.”

Efforts made to have the alleged owner of the rams to speak were unsuccessful as he was not available at the filling station.

Meanwhile, a source confided in our correspondent that the rams had been released to the owner and the victim relocated to another hospital in Akure, Ondo state for better treatment.
