The police in Ekiti State, on Wednesday, arraigned a 25-year-old woman, Tolulope Adeparusi, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N1.4m.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in January 2020 at the Okeyinmi area of Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

Leramo alleged that Adeparusi stole the sum from Grace and Mercy Household Improvement Initiative Plc.

He said the defendant was an employee of the cooperative section of the firm.

“She resigned and was called back to give account of her stewardship, that was when the management discovered the stolen money,” the police prosecutor stated.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and her counsel, Mr Timi Omotosho, urged the court to admit Adeparusi to bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till July 9, 2020, for hearing.
