The Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Uche Chukwurah has urged motorists and commercial motorcyclists in the state to maintain safe speeds and avoid night travels in order to enjoy a quality road experience during the Yuletide season.
The sector commander gave the advice at the flag-off of the 2021 ember months campaign rally and end of the year special patrol programme, held at Orita Challenge, Ibadan.
According to her, the ember month campaign is a tradition in the FRSC and it is observed nationwide at this period of the year because of the frenzy associated with traveling during the yuletide season.
Chukwurah said the campaign became necessary as vehicular flow is expected to be higher than normal, with the heightened temptation by drivers who over speed under the erroneous belief of maximizing returns thereby endangering the lives of their passengers and other road users, through avoidable road crashes.
The FRSC commander, who pointed out that the corps has continued to preach against night travels because of the attendant threat it poses urged motorist to do away with night journeys, not only because it blurs vision but because the consequences could be grave and irreversible.
While urging drivers to avoid drunk driving, maintain safe speed and ensure the installation of speed limit device, she equally admonished them to shun overloading of passengers and good in order to avoid road crashes.
