…human, vehicular movements disrupted
By Bode Akinbode, Ibadan
Human and vehicular movements were on Friday disrupted, as #ENDSARS protesters stormed Agodi Government Secretariat, Ibadan, in protest to drive home the call for the total ban of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives.
The protesters insisted on seeing the governor of the state, Mr Seyi Makinde to address them before they could leave the secretariat premises, which resulted to the total shutdown of all the entrance gates to the state secretariat by the security operatives manning them.
The #ENDSARS protesters had earlier in the day, staged their protest to the state Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan, where they were addressed by the Police Commissioner, Mr Nwachukwu Enwonwu.
They are demanding an end to the alleged police brutality, harassment, and killings by the SARS operatives.
While addressing the protesters, CP Enwonwu, assured them that necessary measures have been put in place to check the excesses of the SARS operatives, noting that two new monitoring units have been established to review their operations in the state.
The protesters started the march from the front gate of the University of Ibadan through Bodija market to the state police command, Eleyele, and stopped at the state secretariat, Agodi, venting their agitation for the scrapping of SARS.
The protesters had placards with various inscriptions like: “End Police Brutality” “We are Nigerians, We are Innocent; Being a Youth is not a criminal offence; Stop Killing Us.”
