A refuse disposal manager in Kwara State reportedly died while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries when a vehicle rammed onto them at Agric Junction in Ilorin on Thursday.
The women who were said to be resting after cleaning the streets were hit by the Toyota Corolla car with registration no. EP 550 AP.
An eyewitness at the scene of the accident told our reporter that the unnamed driver of the vehicle was using his mobile phone and apparently lost concentration.
He added that when he found that he was about hitting the truck used for the collection of refuse in the town.
The eyewitness said the driver quickly swerved to the right side in a bid to avoid the truck but he eventually hit the women who were resting.
The five women were said to have been rushed to a nearby private hospital but were referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.
It was learnt that one of them died before reaching the hospital and was confirmed death on arrival at the hospital.
One of the injured victims was said to have sustained serious injuries and had been admitted while the other three were later discharged after treatment.
