Kidnappers of five farmers and two members of Odua peoples Congress (OPC), at Elias Farm in Igbodu area of Epe Lagos State on Tuesday, have demanded for N50 million ransom for their release.
The kidnappers, as gathered, contacted the manager of the farmland yesterday, threatening to manhandle the victims if the ransom was not paid.
Recall that gunmen clad in Army camouflage stormed Elias’s Farm located along Ishiwo Road, overpowered some private guards suspected to be members of OPC and abducted seven persons.
Following the spate of kidnap in the farm resettlement area, some workers were said to have been absent from work yesterday.
Sources at the farm disclosed that owner of Elias Farm was contacted on Tuesday night through one of the victim’s telephone, where the N50 million demand was made.
Meanwhile, police said that efforts were on to rescue the victims. Assistant Inspector-General of Police in-charge of Zone 2, Onikan, Akayode Aderanti, assured that the victims would be rescued alive.
He said: “We are doing everything to police that area. The major problem in that part of the state is the porous nature of the area, which gives room to kidnappers to thrive.”
