Ex-FUTA VC: Court Remands 2 Murder Suspects in Prison Custody

The alleged killers of the erstwhile Vice Chancellor of the ‎Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State, Prof. Albert Ilemobade, have been remanded in Olokuta Prison custody.

The suspects, Daniel Ita Effiom, 24 year- old security guard, and Olayemi Bamitale, 36-years-old, former driver of the deceased, were on Wednesday arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Akure.

They were arranged on a four-count charge‎, among which were robbery and murder.

The two suspects were accused of allegedly killing and dumping the body of their boss, Prof. Ilemobade, at his isolated store in Akure.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Isah Atanegbe, told the court that investigation revealed that the two suspects conspired together to commit murder by strangulating the deceased to death at his residence in Ijapo Estate, Akure, on 21st of June 2015.

Atanegbe said their offence contravenes and is punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The charge sheet read by the police prosecutor to the suspects before the Magistrate court read thus: “That you Daniel Ita Effiom and Olayemi Bamitale on the 21st June 2015 at about 9pm at No. 1 Ikere Street Ijapo Estate commit felony to wit: murder and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 324 of the Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

“That you Daniel Ita Effiom and Olayemi Bamitale on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did kill one Professor Albert Adeoye Ilemobade by jointly strangled him to death and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 316 and punishable under section 319 of Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

“That you Daniel Ita Effiom and Olayemi Bamitale on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did conspire together to commit felony to wit: robbery and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 403A of the Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo state of Nigeria 2006.

“That you Daniel Ita Effiom and Olayemi Bamitale on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did rob one late Professor Albert Adeoye Ilemobade Rav 4 Jeep 2008 model with registration number Lagos GGE-589-CF valued yet unknown and the sum of seven thousand naira property of late Professor Albert Adeoye Ilemobade and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 401 of the Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006”, it read.

The prosecuting police officer also advised that the killer-suspects be remanded in prison custody ‎for him to seek legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP. ‎

Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Victoria Bob-Manuel, ordered that the two accused person be remanded in Olokuta Medium Prison.

Bob-Manuel adjourned the case till September 18, 2015, for further hearing.
