A lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, University of Ibadan, Mr A. O. Subair who recently resigned his appointment has committed suicide.
Subair, a Mathematics teacher set himself ablaze at a senior staff quarters on Phillipson road in the University.
A native of Kaduna State and a father of three, Subair has been buried at the Akinyele public cemetery, Ibadan.
According to reports, he recently resigned his appointment from the university without reason and was yet to vacate his staff apartment before the suicide.
Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof. Deji Omole has confirmed the incidence which he decribed as pathetic.
Omole said it was a major loss to the union, urging members of the union to confide in one another as isolation could deepen depression.
A former student of the deceased, Pastor Dayo Adetunji has also described the incidence as sad.
Adetunji, now a missionary based in Tanzania told National Wire he was pained when the news broke.
“I was so pained on hearing this News…He taught me one Maths course,” he said.
Continuing, the cleric said, “Those Maths lecturers were known to be great thinkers.
I can’t imagine why this came up…He was a popular lecturer.
