For the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the September 22, 2018 Osun governorship election, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, there is no let or hindrance in the troubles that have come his way since his controversial emergence as the party’s candidate.
Apart from the certificate scandal rocking his candidature, it has emerged that at the close of nomination last Monday, July 23, his party failed to forward the name of the Deputy Governorhip nominee to the Independent National Electoral Commission as required by law.
Under the Electoral Act, the political parties are required to submit both their governorship and deputy governorship candidate to INEC not later than 60 days to the poll, which falls on July 23.
Perhaps still smarting from the controversy trailing his nomination, the party failed to meet the submission date.
WESTERN POST learnt that the party’s National Chairman, Uche Secondus, was moving from pillar to post to resolve this seeming constitutional infraction.
By last night it was not clear what the commission would do over the matter. All eforts to get the PDP, its candidate Adeleke and INEC to speak on the matter have proved abortive.
Apart from the certificate scandal, the running mate in the PDP governorship primaries in Osun, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, has continued to reject the outcome of the poll, saying he won a majority of lawful votes in the election.
His petition to the party’s Abuja headquarters was rejected but Ogunbiyi is insisting he will retrieve his mandate sooner than later.
