The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, sacked all his principal aides in order to take full charge of his affairs and ensure that those who would work with him emerged directly from him, WESTERN POST can reveal today.
Obasa had feared that some of his staff may have had a hand in the financial allegations against him for which he was interrogated for days by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Sacked were Obasa’s Chief of Staff, Hon. Saka Fafunmi; Chief Press Secretary, Mr Tolani Abati; Special Adviser on Political Matters, Hon. Dayo Famakinwa; and two other Special Advisers.
Fafunmi and Famakinwa were members of the House in the 8th Assembly before their appointments in October 2019, while Abati was Editor of Encomium Magazine.
One of the sacked SAs is Mr.Oriyomi, the SA on Research, introduced to Obasa by the late Senator representing Lagos East, Bayo Osinowo, aka Peppe before the duo became estranged.
No particular reason was given for the sack of the aides who got their letters one after another, but WP sources said the key issue was the need by the Speaker to ensure his staff were absolutely loyal to him and to no other.
The former CPS Abati was said to have particularly run into trouble with Obasa over the series of negative reports against his principal which he could not stop.
The sack letters were suddenly handed over to the affected officers in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Speaker reportedly thanked them for adding value to his office during their stay in office.
Some of them, however, felt given their relationship with him, the Speaker could have given them the benefit of resigning by themselves rather than been fired the way he did.
